Our Assessment of Sanctuary Olonana
Olonana is a strong choice when room comfort, riverside scenery and service are central to your safari.
Its spacious suites suit guests who want substantial accommodation, with room to read, relax and enjoy the river between outings. Air-conditioning and generous bathrooms also make it appealing for first-time safari visitors who value familiar comforts.
For families, the adjoining-bedroom suites and children’s retreat are important advantages. We would prioritise the right room configuration and a suitable game-drive pace before adding optional experiences.
The Geoffrey Kent Suite suits a different brief: a family or small party seeking private living spaces, dedicated service and their own guiding arrangements.
We recommend at least three nights. Four or five nights allow more time for wildlife viewing and the lodge itself, and qualifying longer stays can benefit from reduced accommodation rates.
Best For
- Families seeking spacious accommodation and children’s activities.
- Couples who prefer contemporary lodge interiors.
- Honeymooners combining wildlife viewing with time to relax.
- Travellers who value river views, dining and personalised service.
- Small parties considering the Geoffrey Kent Suite.
- Guests including the Mara in a longer Kenya holiday.
Consider Another Property If
You prefer canvas accommodation, have a lower package budget or want to stay physically inside the Mara Triangle.
For guests with mobility requirements, we check the suite, paths, shared facilities and vehicle access before recommending accommodation.
Sanctuary Olonana Prices and Safari Packages
Sanctuary Olonana rates depend on travel dates, suite category, occupancy, number of nights and the services included.
A river-view suite and the Geoffrey Kent Suite have different accommodation and service arrangements. We quote them separately so you can compare the complete experience.

| Meals and drinks | Included meals and beverage selection |
| Transport | Scheduled flights, charter flights or private road travel |
| Game drives | Guiding team, shared or exclusive vehicle use and programme |
| Transfers | Nairobi connections and Mara airstrip transfers |
| Admission fees | Covered wildlife areas and chargeable days |
| Optional experiences | Requested activities and additional costs |
| Booking conditions | Deposit, balance payment and cancellation terms |
Flying Safaris to Olonana
Fly from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip, followed by a vehicle transfer to the lodge.
We coordinate flights, transfers, accommodation and guiding together. Depending on the dates and package selected, game drives are handled by the lodge or our separately arranged local Maasai guide.
Your quotation states whether the vehicle is shared or exclusive.
Private Road Safari Arrangements
Travel from Nairobi in a private safari vehicle, with the route and arrival planned around your stay.
We agree how game drives will be handled before pricing the package. Where the lodge’s ground package includes wildlife outings, those services are reflected in your quotation.
Geoffrey Kent Suite Packages
The Geoffrey Kent Suite is quoted separately according to dates, party size, occupancy and dedicated services.
It is particularly relevant for families and small groups who want private living spaces and their own safari arrangements.

Honeymoons, Anniversaries and Special Occasions
Tell us if your visit celebrates a honeymoon, birthday or anniversary.

Qualifying honeymoon and longer-stay offers may also be available for your dates. We check eligibility and permitted combinations when preparing your quotation.
Location: Olonana and the Mara Triangle
Olonana occupies a leafy riverside setting just north of the Mara Triangle, bordering Masai Mara National Reserve.
The lodge’s position allows a holiday combining reserve wildlife outings with permitted conservancy experiences. We plan access points, driving times and fees around the areas you want to explore.
Being beside the Mara River does not mean every section of the river is a migration crossing site. Accommodation location and the daily wildlife programme should be considered together.
Getting to Sanctuary Olonana
By Air
Fly from Wilson Airport to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip, then transfer approximately 30 minutes by vehicle to the lodge.
The indicative flight time is around one hour, but actual duration depends on routing and intermediate stops.
We confirm the baggage allowance for your booked flight. Although the lodge guide indicates 20 kg in soft-sided bags, including hand luggage, your selected airline’s allowance applies.
By Road
Allow approximately six hours or longer from Nairobi, depending on traffic, weather, your collection point and the final route.
We plan arrival around the lodge’s location and your agreed safari programme.

Olonana’s community connections include A&K Philanthropy projects supporting education, health, livelihoods and environmental stewardship.

Any project visit follows the community’s preferences and the relevant team’s arrangements, particularly where schools or children are involved.

We had the best experience. Everything was really great. We booked a tour from Nairobi to lake Nakuru and then to Masaai Mara and back to Nairobi. Our guide and driver Brian was very well educated and told us a lot about the animals and plants we were able to spot. He was also a very experienced driver. In the Mara we saw a lot of cars got stuck in the mudd because of the rain the day before. The camps the holiday dealers recommended us were great. The food was very delicious, the staff was very polite and the rooms were nice. We spotted a lot of different animals and of course the big five. Thanks to the Team of The holiday dealers - the whole trip was a unforgettable journey for our whole family.Posted on Google![]()

It is now over a decade since i started using The Holiday Dealers to plan my tours and travels. Not a single day have they disaspointed me. They have remained consistent and professional in their service delivery. Over the years, they have personaized my trips, to suit my needs and expectations of a perfect vacation. They will take you from the bush to the beach without breaking a sweat. Last festive season, Holiday Dealers successfuly planned my trip to Nothern and Central parts of Kenya. We were assigned a highly qualified, professional and well informed tour guide and driver who gave us limitless guided game drives of the breathtaking landscapes of Samburu. In particular we visited the Buffalo Springs National Reserve and Shaba Game Reserve. While there watch out for the Duom palm, grevy’s Zebra and the Orynx. We wound up our trip at the luxurious Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari club. In the morning, we would wake up to perfect views of amazing sunrise from the top of Mt. Kenya. The location of the club is just perfect. We were also lucky to see the endangered mountain bongo, some Llamas and other animals at the animal orphanage. Activities to Consider
Guided Game Drives
Game drives explore wildlife areas selected according to conditions, animal movements and permitted access.
Tell us whether your priorities are big cats, a family-friendly pace, photography or a broader wildlife experience. Your quotation specifies the guide and vehicle allocation.
Great Migration Viewing
Migrating herds are usually associated with the Kenyan Mara between July and October, although their arrival, departure and movements vary.
A riverside lodge does not guarantee a crossing, and the river directly beside your suite should not be assumed to be an active crossing point. Your guide plans outings around current conditions.
No lodge, guide or itinerary can guarantee a Mara River crossing.
Birdwatching and Photography
Riverine habitats and nearby plains offer varied subjects.
For photography-focused stays, we consider vehicle space, time at sightings, guiding and your number of nights. An exclusive vehicle can provide useful flexibility.
Hot-Air Balloon Safaris
A sunrise balloon flight provides an aerial perspective of the landscape, usually followed by breakfast.
We confirm pickup arrangements, availability, restrictions and operator conditions before booking.
Maasai Community Visits
A community visit offers an opportunity to learn from local hosts about Maasai traditions and everyday life.
We explain the arrangements and costs in advance. Ask permission before photographing people and follow your hosts’ guidance.
Walking Safaris
Walking experiences can be arranged in Oloisukut Conservancy, with the appropriate guides and permissions.
We confirm the location, duration, terrain, transfer requirements and age restrictions. These arrangements do not permit independent walking through the National Reserve.
Night Game Drives
Night drives can be arranged in Oloisukut Conservancy, subject to availability and the confirmed programme.
They are separate from ordinary daytime reserve game drives. The transfer, activity charges and applicable conditions should be included in your quotation.
Sundowners and Bush Dining
Ask about a special meal or sundowner if you are celebrating an occasion.
Locations and arrangements depend on permissions, weather and the lodge’s programme. We confirm what is included and what carries an additional charge.
