Our Assessment of Mara Maisha Camp
Mara Maisha is worth considering if you want comfortable accommodation, flexible room choices and leisure facilities alongside your safari.
Its family tents are a useful option for parents who want separate sleeping spaces while keeping everyone together. Triple accommodation can also help friends compare room arrangements without automatically booking an additional tent.
The heated pool adds something to the hours between game drives. We recommend a programme that leaves enough time to enjoy the camp, particularly when travelling with children.
There are two practical points to consider. First, Mara Maisha is a larger camp, so its atmosphere differs from an intimate property with only eight or twelve tents. Second, its outside-gate location means reserve entry, daily driving and park fees need to be planned together.
Best For
- Families needing flexible sleeping arrangements.
- Friends comparing twin, triple and family accommodation.
- Couples who want a pool and comfortable facilities.
- Guests choosing a private road safari from Nairobi.
- Travellers combining wildlife outings with time at camp.
Consider Another Property If
You prefer a small camp, want to sleep inside the National Reserve or need a base close to particular wildlife areas.
If migration crossings are your main priority, we compare the intended driving routes and viewing areas before recommending accommodation.

Mara Maisha Camp prices depend on travel dates, tent category, occupancy, number of nights, transport, guiding and applicable admission fees.

Family Tents and Safaris with Children
Mara Maisha’s family tents accommodate up to five guests, with two en-suite rooms within one unit.
This arrangement can suit families who want children nearby while retaining separate sleeping spaces.
We calculate the family package using:
- Every child’s age at the time of travel.
- Number of adults and children.
- Tent occupancy and bed requirements.
- Meal preferences and dietary needs.
- Road or flying transport.
- Applicable child accommodation and admission rates.
A private vehicle also allows the safari pace to suit your party. We can plan shorter outings, breaks and packed meals where appropriate, while respecting reserve rules.
Dining and Bar
The open-terraced restaurant provides a setting for meals before or after wildlife outings. The camp uses produce from its own farm and can accommodate special meal requests with advance notice.
Share allergies and dietary requirements when enquiring. We confirm the specific arrangements rather than assuming every menu option is available at every meal.
The bar offers alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Drinks are included only where stated in your package.
For a full-day outing, packed meals can be arranged as part of the agreed programme.
Facilities and Time at Camp
Heated Swimming Pool
The heated swimming pool gives guests another way to enjoy the stay between game drives.
Families should supervise children around the pool and follow the camp’s guidance.
Massage Facilities
Treatments can be requested during your stay. Appointment availability and additional charges are confirmed separately.
Other Facilities
- Restaurant and bar.
- Wi-Fi.
- Gift shop.
- Security services.
- Conference facilities.
- Cots and additional beds on request.
The pool and family accommodation are useful reasons to allow some downtime rather than filling every day with long drives. maramaishacamp.com
Is Mara Maisha Camp Inside the Park?
No. Mara Maisha Camp is outside Masai Mara National Reserve, approximately 4.5 kilometres from Talek Gate.
This affects your daily safari arrangements:
- Reserve outings require admission.
- Travel between camp and the gate forms part of the day.
- Full-day drives may reduce repeated journeys back to camp.
- Accommodation nights and chargeable park access need to be calculated separately.
We explain the included entries or days in your quotation. Staying outside a gate does not make reserve game drives free.
Getting to Mara Maisha Camp
By Road from Nairobi
Allow approximately five to six hours or longer, depending on traffic, your collection point, road conditions and the chosen route.
We arrange a private safari vehicle and plan the approach around the Talek area and current access conditions.
By Air from Wilson Airport
Fly from Wilson Airport to a suitable Mara airstrip. Ol Kiombo is an option to consider, with the connection and onward transfer confirmed for your dates.
Flight duration varies with routing and intermediate stops. We check baggage allowances and Nairobi transfers before booking.

We had the best experience. Everything was really great. We booked a tour from Nairobi to lake Nakuru and then to Masaai Mara and back to Nairobi. Our guide and driver Brian was very well educated and told us a lot about the animals and plants we were able to spot. He was also a very experienced driver. In the Mara we saw a lot of cars got stuck in the mudd because of the rain the day before. The camps the holiday dealers recommended us were great. The food was very delicious, the staff was very polite and the rooms were nice. We spotted a lot of different animals and of course the big five. Thanks to the Team of The holiday dealers - the whole trip was a unforgettable journey for our whole family.Posted on Google![]()

They have remained consistent and professional in their service delivery. Over the years, they have personaized my trips, to suit my needs and expectations of a perfect vacation. They will take you from the bush to the beach without breaking a sweat. Last festive season, Holiday Dealers successfuly planned my trip to Nothern and Central parts of Kenya. We were assigned a highly qualified, professional and well informed tour guide and driver who gave us limitless guided game drives of the breathtaking landscapes of Samburu. In particular we visited the Buffalo Springs National Reserve and Shaba Game Reserve. While there watch out for the Duom palm, grevy’s Zebra and the Orynx. We wound up our trip at the luxurious Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari club. In the morning, we would wake up to perfect views of amazing sunrise from the top of Mt. Kenya. The location of the club is just perfect. We were also lucky to see the endangered mountain bongo, some Llamas and other animals at the animal orphanage. Club Tents and Family Arrangements
Club Tent packages can be quoted using the corresponding accommodation rates.
Family tents carry supplements and minimum occupancy charges. Send us your adult numbers, children’s ages and preferred room arrangement so we can calculate the correct family total.
Your Four-Day / Three-Night Safari
Day 1: Nairobi to Mara Maisha
Travel by road or fly to your confirmed airstrip and transfer to camp. Settle into your tent before an afternoon wildlife outing, where timing allows.
Day 2: Explore the Reserve
Enjoy morning and afternoon drives, or a longer outing with packed meals, according to your programme.
Day 3: Follow Your Interests
Spend more time looking for wildlife, photographing sightings or observing birds. An optional balloon safari or community visit can be arranged in advance.
Day 4: Return to Nairobi
Enjoy breakfast before your road departure or airstrip transfer. Any morning outing must fit your departure time and included park admission.
Activities to Consider
Guided Game Drives
Game drives take place in Masai Mara National Reserve under the agreed itinerary.
Your guide plans routes around wildlife movements, conditions and your interests. Morning and afternoon outings suit many guests, while full-day drives can be useful for longer routes.
Great Migration Viewing
Migrating herds are usually associated with the Kenyan Mara between July and October, although their arrival, departure and movements vary.
Mara Maisha’s Talek-area location needs to be considered alongside your intended viewing areas and daily driving. No camp or guide can guarantee a river crossing.
Hot-Air Balloon Safaris
Add an optional sunrise balloon flight for an aerial perspective of the plains.
We coordinate pickup and confirm availability, restrictions and operator conditions before booking.
Birdwatching and Photography
Tell us if birds or photography are priorities so we can allow suitable time and vehicle space.
A private guide can adapt the pace of outings, giving your party more opportunity to observe rather than moving quickly between sightings.
Maasai Community Visits
An optional community visit offers an opportunity to learn from local hosts about traditions and everyday life.
We explain arrangements and costs beforehand. Ask permission before photographing people.
Horseback Safaris
Horse riding can be requested through the camp.
Before adding it, we check the provider, location, riding experience required, age restrictions and cost. It should not be assumed to take place inside the National Reserve.
Guided Walking Safaris
If you would like a guided walk, we arrange it at a confirmed permitted location with appropriate guiding.
Your quotation specifies the duration, participation requirements and cost.
Sundowners and Bush Dining
Choose a simple picnic arrangement or ask about a special meal or sundowner.
The location and setup depend on permissions, weather and your programme. Any additional charges are explained before booking.
