Mara Intrepids Camp is a luxury tented safari camp inside Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve, overlooking the Talek River near Ol Kiombo Airstrip. Its riverside setting, convenient wildlife access and children’s activities make it particularly appealing to families and travellers looking for a comfortable tented safari.
We arrange four-day, three-night Mara Intrepids safari packages from Nairobi, combining accommodation, transport and game drives in one itinerary.
Choose a flying safari for a shorter journey or a road safari with a private vehicle. The camp’s standard safari programme uses shared game drives; we can also arrange a private safari programme for your party.

Our Assessment of Mara Intrepids Camp
We recommend Mara Intrepids for travellers who want to stay inside the reserve, enjoy a traditional tented camp and have a choice between scheduled shared drives and a private safari.
For families, the main advantage is the combination of wildlife viewing, a swimming pool and children’s activities. A three-night stay gives you two full days between arrival and departure, allowing time for game drives without making every day revolve around travel.
For couples and first-time visitors, it offers a comfortable introduction to tented accommodation. You sleep in a canvas tent while retaining a proper bed, an en-suite bathroom and a private outdoor sitting area.
The main decision is how you want your game drives organised. Shared drives suit guests happy to follow the camp’s timetable. A private vehicle gives your party more control over departure times, time spent at sightings and the balance between shorter outings and full-day exploration.
If your priority is a smaller camp overlooking the Mara River itself, we would also consider Entim Mara. Mara Intrepids overlooks the Talek River—an important distinction when comparing riverfront camps.
Mara Intrepids Camp Location
Mara Intrepids is inside the Masai Mara National Reserve, on the banks of the Talek River. You do not need to travel from accommodation outside the reserve before starting your wildlife viewing.
Its location provides access to several game-viewing areas, while nearby Ol Kiombo Airstrip makes it convenient for a flying safari. Mara River crossing areas can be explored on game drives; they are not the river directly outside your tent.
For your itinerary, we plan around your interests—whether that means big cats, general wildlife, birdwatching or spending more time in migration areas.
Is Mara Intrepids in the Mara Triangle?
No. Mara Intrepids is in the main reserve, rather than the Mara Triangle. Tell us if visiting the Triangle is a priority so we can plan the route and any applicable entry arrangements.
Luxury Tents and Family Accommodation
Mara Intrepids Tented Camp offers raised canvas accommodation with private balconies overlooking the riverside setting.
The luxury tents combine traditional safari furnishings with practical comforts, including:
- Double or twin sleeping arrangements.
- En-suite bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets.
- Private balconies.
- Tea and coffee facilities.
- Space to relax between game drives.
We book the tent configuration around your party rather than assuming that every room accommodates the same number of guests.
Family Tents
Two-bedroom family tents offer additional space, including a shared lounge and an outside deck. They are worth considering if you want the family together while retaining separate sleeping areas.
Send us your children’s ages when enquiring. We will recommend the appropriate tent arrangement and include the applicable child accommodation, flight and park charges in your quotation.
Dining, Swimming Pool and Facilities
Full-board accommodation includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals fit around the safari programme, with time to relax at camp between outings.
Facilities include a swimming pool, restaurant, bar and lounge. Public-area Wi-Fi is available, although we recommend treating your stay as a safari break rather than relying on uninterrupted connectivity.
Full board does not automatically mean all-inclusive drinks. Your quotation will state any drinks included and any payable extras.
Adventurers’ Club for Children
The Adventurers’ Club introduces children to wildlife, plants and Maasai culture through activities led by naturalists. It gives younger guests another way to engage with the safari beyond sitting in a vehicle.
Complimentary club membership is included for children aged 3–11 under the camp’s standard package. Activities follow the camp’s programme and applicable supervision arrangements.
Game Drives at Mara Intrepids
Shared Camp Game Drives
The standard Mara Intrepids safari programme includes three scheduled shared game drives daily, using open-sided safari vehicles.
You travel with other guests and follow the camp’s departure schedule. This is a suitable option if you enjoy a structured programme and are comfortable sharing your vehicle.
Our Private Safari Option
For greater flexibility, we can arrange a dedicated vehicle and guide for your party.
A private programme is particularly useful for:
- Photographers wanting longer at selected sightings.
- Families needing breaks or adjusted departure times.
- Guests preferring full-day drives with picnic lunches.
- Travellers with specific wildlife or birdwatching interests.
For a road safari, your private vehicle can remain with your party throughout the agreed itinerary. For a flying safari, we can arrange a dedicated local guide and vehicle in the Mara.
Your quotation will clearly identify whether game drives are shared or private.
Mara Intrepids and the Great Migration
Mara Intrepids can be used as a base for exploring the Masai Mara during the Great Migration. We plan your drives around current wildlife movements and the areas you want to visit.
River crossings cannot be guaranteed. Herd locations, rainfall and animal behaviour determine where and when crossings happen.
A three-night stay gives you more opportunities than a short overnight visit, while leaving time to enjoy resident wildlife as well as migration activity.
Mara Intrepids Safari Packages and Prices
We mainly arrange four-day, three-night packages, rather than accommodation alone.
Mara Intrepids Camp prices depend on your travel dates, tent configuration, number of guests, children’s ages and choice of shared or private game drives.
| Package | Journey from Nairobi | Game-drive arrangement | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flying safari with camp drives | Return scheduled flights and airstrip transfers | Scheduled shared camp drives | Guests wanting convenient travel and a structured safari |
| Flying safari with private guiding | Return scheduled flights and airstrip transfers | Dedicated vehicle and guide under the quoted programme | Families, photographers and guests seeking flexibility |
| Private road safari | Return road travel in a private safari vehicle | Private game drives under the agreed itinerary | Parties wanting one vehicle throughout their safari |
We provide a dated quotation showing the total package price, inclusions and payment terms. Accommodation-only rates should not be compared directly with a package that includes flights, transport, guiding and park fees.

Getting to Mara Intrepids from Nairobi
Flying to Ol Kiombo Airstrip
Ol Kiombo is the convenient arrival airstrip for Mara Intrepids, with a short transfer to camp. Flights from Nairobi generally take around 45–60 minutes, depending on the service and intermediate stops.
We arrange the flights and transfers together so your arrival connects with your safari programme.
Travelling by Road
Allow approximately six hours from Nairobi, with additional time possible for traffic, stops and road conditions.
A road safari suits guests comfortable with a longer journey who want a private vehicle throughout their stay.
Compare Mara Intrepids with Ashnil, Entim and Soroi
For this comparison, Soroi refers to Soroi Mara Bush Camp.
| Camp | Setting | Main reason to consider it | Key booking decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mara Intrepids Camp | Talek River, inside the reserve | Family facilities, children’s programme and convenient airstrip access | Shared camp drives or a private safari programme |
| Ashnil Mara Camp | Mara River, inside the reserve | Riverfront tented accommodation with a swimming pool | Tent arrangement and package inclusions |
| Entim Mara Camp | Entim Main overlooks the Mara River inside the reserve | A smaller camp for guests prioritising a Mara River setting | Entim Main or Entim Private, which offer different experiences |
| Soroi Mara Bush Camp | Riverine woodland beside the Olare Orok River | A smaller bush camp with family tents and a quieter woodland setting | Tent configuration and guiding arrangements |
Soroi Mara Bush Camp has ten guest tents and two family tents, with convenient access from Ol Kiombo Airstrip.
Our recommendation: Start with Mara Intrepids if family activities and a structured camp programme matter most. Compare Entim for a smaller Mara River camp, Ashnil for riverfront accommodation with a pool, and Soroi Mara Bush Camp for a smaller woodland camp.
We can quote comparable dates and safari arrangements so you can assess the whole trip, rather than room prices alone.

We had the best experience. Everything was really great. We booked a tour from Nairobi to lake Nakuru and then to Masaai Mara and back to Nairobi. Our guide and driver Brian was very well educated and told us a lot about the animals and plants we were able to spot. He was also a very experienced driver. In the Mara we saw a lot of cars got stuck in the mudd because of the rain the day before. The camps the holiday dealers recommended us were great. The food was very delicious, the staff was very polite and the rooms were nice. We spotted a lot of different animals and of course the big five. Thanks to the Team of The holiday dealers - the whole trip was a unforgettable journey for our whole family.Posted on Google![]()

In particular we visited the Buffalo Springs National Reserve and Shaba Game Reserve. While there watch out for the Duom palm, grevy’s Zebra and the Orynx. We wound up our trip at the luxurious Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari club. In the morning, we would wake up to perfect views of amazing sunrise from the top of Mt. Kenya.
