Our Assessment of Kilima Camp
Kilima is particularly appealing when the landscape is part of what you want from a safari.
Its escarpment position gives you a different experience from a camp on the plains. You can spend the day exploring wildlife areas, then return to a veranda overlooking the wider Mara.
The accommodation choices also serve different needs. Classic Tents suit a straightforward tented stay, Family Deluxe Tents give parents and children more space, and Osim provides a private-house option for families or friends.
Horse riding is another important distinction. Guests who want to combine vehicle outings with a guided ride or walk should consider Kilima alongside camps whose programmes focus mainly on game drives.
The practical point is location: you travel from the escarpment to the reserve for Triangle outings. We account for that journey when planning your daily programme.
Best For
- Couples who value panoramic scenery.
- Families comparing tent and private-house accommodation.
- Guests interested in guided horseback safaris.
- Honeymooners seeking privacy and a quieter setting.
- Small parties considering Osim Private House.
- Travellers who want several activities within one stay.
Consider Another Property If
You prefer to sleep physically inside the Mara Triangle, want a riverside tent at ground level or require a shared swimming pool with standard tent accommodation.
Tell us about mobility requirements before booking so we can check paths, gradients, accommodation and vehicle access.

Full Board or Game Package?
Full Board covers accommodation, three meals per booked night and guided nature walks under the camp’s arrangements.
The Game Package adds specified camp-operated game drives, Kichwa Tembo airstrip transfers and included beverages.
Camp game drives normally use shared open-sided 4×4 vehicles. Private vehicle use requires advance confirmation. Your quotation also explains applicable park fees.
Private Road Safari Arrangements
Travel from Nairobi in a private 4×4 safari Land Cruiser with a driver-guide.
We agree whether outings use our accompanying guide or the camp’s programme before pricing the stay. The route and vehicle arrangements account for Kilima’s escarpment location.
Flying Safari Arrangements
Fly from Wilson Airport to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip, then transfer to camp.
We coordinate flights with accommodation, airstrip transfers and the selected guiding arrangement. A camp-operated game package differs from a stay using our separately arranged local Maasai guide and private vehicle.
Osim Private House Packages
Osim is quoted according to party size, bedrooms, exclusive use and the services selected. Private-house accommodation and private guiding are specified separately.

| Your party’s needs | Accommodation to consider |
|---|---|

We check accommodation policies and activity restrictions separately. Riding and walking requirements may differ from the camp’s general child policy.

Spa Treatments and Hot Tubs

Other Facilities
- Library.
- Gift shop.
- Organic garden.
- Parking.
- Credit-card payment facilities.
- Hairdryer available on request from reception.

Location and Access to the Mara Triangle
Kilima stands on a 300-acre private wildlife area, bordering the Triangle from its escarpment position.
Oloololo Gate is approximately 6.5 kilometres away, with an indicative drive of around 15 minutes. Conditions can change the journey time.
The distinction between camp and reserve matters: you sleep above the plains and travel into the Triangle for reserve wildlife outings. Your quotation explains admission and the agreed programme.
Night game drives should only be added after confirming a separately permitted area and provider. They are not ordinary activities inside the Mara Triangle.
Getting to Kilima Camp
By Air
Fly from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip.
The indicative flight time is 40–60 minutes, although intermediate stops can extend the journey. We confirm the flight, baggage allowance and onward transfer together.
Connections from other destinations can be checked for your specific dates.
By Road
Allow approximately six and a half to seven hours from Nairobi, depending on traffic, weather and the final approach.
We plan the route and suitable vehicle around the escarpment location.

We had the best experience. Everything was really great. We booked a tour from Nairobi to lake Nakuru and then to Masaai Mara and back to Nairobi. Our guide and driver Brian was very well educated and told us a lot about the animals and plants we were able to spot. He was also a very experienced driver. In the Mara we saw a lot of cars got stuck in the mudd because of the rain the day before. The camps the holiday dealers recommended us were great. The food was very delicious, the staff was very polite and the rooms were nice. We spotted a lot of different animals and of course the big five. Thanks to the Team of The holiday dealers - the whole trip was a unforgettable journey for our whole family.Posted on Google![]()

They have remained consistent and professional in their service delivery. Over the years, they have personaized my trips, to suit my needs and expectations of a perfect vacation. They will take you from the bush to the beach without breaking a sweat. Last festive season, Holiday Dealers successfuly planned my trip to Nothern and Central parts of Kenya. We were assigned a highly qualified, professional and well informed tour guide and driver who gave us limitless guided game drives of the breathtaking landscapes of Samburu. In particular we visited the Buffalo Springs National Reserve and Shaba Game Reserve. While there watch out for the Duom palm, grevy’s Zebra and the Orynx. We wound up our trip at the luxurious Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari club. In the morning, we would wake up to perfect views of amazing sunrise from the top of Mt. Kenya. The location of the club is just perfect. We were also lucky to see the endangered mountain bongo, some Llamas and other animals at the animal orphanage. Activities at Kilima Camp
Guided Game Drives
Explore the Mara Triangle in a safari vehicle, with routes shaped by wildlife movements, weather and reserve rules.
Camp outings use shared open-sided vehicles unless exclusive use is arranged. Packed meals can support longer days away from camp.
Horseback Safaris
Guided horse riding is one of Kilima’s distinctive experiences.
We check riding ability, age, fitness, weight limits, duration and the route offered before booking. The provider matches the outing to your experience and the permitted riding area.
Guided Walking Safaris
A guided walk offers time to notice tracks, plants, birds and smaller wildlife signs.
We confirm the permitted location, guide, terrain, duration and participation conditions. Walks are guided activities, rather than permission to explore independently.
Great Migration Viewing
Migrating herds are usually associated with the Kenyan Mara between July and October, although their movements vary.
Your guide selects viewing areas according to current conditions. No camp, guide or itinerary can guarantee a river crossing.
Birdwatching and Photography
Birds, wildlife and wide landscape views provide varied subjects.
Tell us about your interests and equipment so we can consider guiding, vehicle space and time at sightings.
Hot-Air Balloon Safaris
An optional sunrise balloon flight provides an aerial perspective of the Mara.
We confirm pickup arrangements, availability, age restrictions and operator conditions before booking.
Maasai Community Visits
A respectfully arranged visit offers an opportunity to learn from local hosts.
School visits require advance arrangements and take place only where appropriate during school terms. They are not assumed to be part of an ordinary community visit.
Sundowners and Bush Dining
Ask about a sundowner or private dinner at a viewpoint if you would like one in your programme.
The setup, location and cost depend on weather, permissions and availability.
Garden and Eco-Facility Visits
Guests can ask about visiting the camp’s organic garden and learning about its operating practices.
Weddings, Blessings and Vow Renewals
Kilima can consider special celebration arrangements, including Maasai blessings and vow renewals, on request.
We confirm the arrangements, cultural participation, costs and any legal requirements applicable to your plans.
