What Happens on the Balloon Safari Morning?
Collection Before Dawn
Your driver meets you at the agreed point at your accommodation. Have your clothing and camera ready the evening before.
We confirm the departure time around your camp’s location and the launch arrangements.
Preparation and Pilot Briefing
At the launch site, the crew prepares the balloon and the pilot assesses conditions.
The briefing covers boarding, passenger positions and landing instructions. Give it your full attention and follow the crew’s directions throughout.
Sunrise Flight
As the balloon rises, the plains open beneath you. Morning light reveals the shape of the landscape, with grassland, woodland and river habitats coming into view.
The pilot uses altitude and available air currents to influence the route. There is no fixed flight path, and no two mornings provide exactly the same experience.
Wildlife Viewing from Above
You may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes or wildebeest along the route. Predator sightings are possible, but smaller animals can be difficult to identify from the air.
The experience is about both wildlife and the scale of the landscape. We cannot guarantee particular animals, migration herds or a Mara River crossing.
Landing and Bush Breakfast
Follow the pilot’s landing instructions carefully. Landing conditions vary, and the basket may not remain upright.
After the flight, enjoy breakfast in an outdoor setting. Tell us about dietary requirements when booking so they can be arranged in advance.
Return or Continue with Your Guide
We arrange your return to camp or coordinate a meeting with your safari guide for the next part of your day.
Any extended game drive and its required entry fees should be agreed before the balloon morning.
Best Time for a Masai Mara Balloon Safari
Balloon safaris can form part of a Mara visit throughout the year, subject to weather and operation.
July–October is popular with travellers hoping to combine ballooning with migration viewing. Herd locations vary, however, and the wind determines whether they lie beneath your flight.
Other months offer resident wildlife and changing landscapes. Rain can affect departure in any season, so allow flexibility where possible.
We generally recommend booking the balloon for an earlier morning in your stay, leaving another possible date if rescheduling is available.
